Boat wont start???

I have a Mercrusier 4.3L in a 1991 Sierra Northport. I ran this boat last year with no problems whatsoever. I got it out this past weekend and got my batteries jucied up and ready to go. When i try to start the engine, all i get is a constant "click click click click" when i have the key turned. The engine doesnt even make a sound. Any help? I am not an engine guru so I dont really have a clue other than maybe a starter problem or ignition coil??<br />Thanks for any help in regards to this post<br />Erik

Howdy, CC2B.<br /><br />First, measure battery voltage when the starter is engaged. It should not drop below about 9 volts. If it does you have a bad battery.<br /><br />If battery voltage stays up, clean and reinstall all battery cable connections, and the wiring through your starter key to the solenoid.<br /><br />Good luck.

Had this problem before could be the selenoid on the starter or a low spot in the starter. Try taping the starter with a hammer if that does not work and the battery is good try a new selenoid.

Personally I would lean toward a low battery or defective battery condition... usually the CLICK CLICK indicates that... Try jumping the boat or putting charge on and starting...<br /><br />tallman
