When running in the drive, where is the gas can located, such as sitting on the drive? That could be a weak fuel pump. The engine should not get hot, certainly not if being force fed with a hose.

How hot are we talking about? Is it pumping water?

yes it is pumping water. i don't know much about boat motors, just the basics. I was just mentioning the temp thinking it might help with the prognosis.

Try pumping the fuel primer bulb, will that keep it running? If so, may be your fuel pump as suggested. The carbs may also need a rebuild. Will spraying pre mixed fuel into the carb throats pick it up?

the fuel bulb is full of fuel when cranking. if you squirt the fuel directly into the cards it will sputter like it wants to start but it still wont. last week it ran perfectly on the water. I switched tanks and this is when i started having the problems. i switched back to the other tank and it still is messing up.
