Wow. Only 3 1/2 years for killing two people and showing zero remorse. Maybe he'll get a little more justice in prison since it's pretty apparent our judicial system failed the families of the victims.

Wow... That is both shocking and scary. The kid did get off light. Hopefully the civil case will take everything he has.

What struck home was that you can be minding your own business, doing everything right, and still get run over at night. Makes me think twice about wanting to drop anchor and sleep on the boat. I will make sure that the all around light is on all night (get a led bulb) and a few extra lights wouldn't hurt either.

It pays to protect yourself the best you can.

32 speeding violations, ignoring stoplights and such!!!????
This guy needed to be locked up for many years if only to protect society from him. I am astonished that he can get 3 1/2 years for killing 2 people in such an obvious totally apathetic manner. It is also clear by his past driving record and the name of his boat that he has absolutely no regard for others. Anyone who reads that guys history before the "accident" could have predicted what that guy was going to do to someone in the future. I'll bet that he never spends more than a year or so in prison since he'll get time off that 3 1/2 years for this and that. This sentence is a terrible injustice.

KID!!

This dude was 39!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am surprised this guy made it this long without doing worse. I can't believe this guy was allowed near anything after his past driving record. 28 major infractions in his driving career, he should have never been allowed near a motorized vehicle or boat.

While I am disappointed at the length of the sentence, I'm not surprised. For some reason, our legal system doesn't seem award punishment in accordance to the level of wanton recklessness and disregard for others, involved in these crimes. I was hit by a drunk driver about 20 years ago, who also killed a 28 year old woman in the accident. He had the same sort of history, yet he received a three year sentence. I guess what this tells me is that the legislatures and courts haven't learned much in 20 years.

Doesn't surprise me one bit on the time he got. A bouncer at a bar in this town put his forearm to a man knocking him to the curb putting him into a coma. Several months later he died. The bouncer spent 6 months because he was remorseful,,,,,,,Sorry, but nobody can be that remorseful to only get 6 months for killing a man.

The article said "It appears that he is special",,,,,,with a boat like he had,,,,,know wonder....... Boaters are special, but not that way..........SS

That "sentence" is to little to late. 28 freek'n tickets................... including 23 speeding infractions, plus five failures to stop for red lights or stop signs. The murder should have been in jail. Not out boating.:mad::mad:

A guy in Texas got 17 years this summer for third DWI (boat & auto) while on parole for another violation. No wreck, no deaths, and no injuries.

An prominent attorney in the next town, also this summer, got 15 days county jail, and 150 hours community service of his choice, for a very similar situation. The court cases were running simultaneously.

The attorney has well placed friends in the city, the other not.

We have a problem with our justice system.

Can't believe 3? years for double manslaughter.

I worked with a guy who was swimming one day in a lake. A boater (heavily intoxicated) ended up running him over. Several muscle damage to his shoulder, arm and back from the prop cutting him up. Fortunately, he survived.

Determined to be an accident, and alcohol wasn't a factor. Young guy who's Dad's best friend was the investigating officer in the small town.

Justice at its finest.

Re: Boater gets prison

These boats should not be allowed on our lakes. Let them run them off shore where they belong.

I'd love to be out on a lake anchored at night, but unless I'm in a small tight bay, I'll never do it.

I rarely use my running lights because I'm off the water by dusk. Too bad because I used to love being out there late at night years ago. Not worth the risks now.

Regulations of safe boating mean nothing if these judges don't give out the max sentence for two murders like these especially with this guys record.

I hope he is someone's B*tch in the big house :D

ejecting LaPointe and his 20-year-old passenger, Nicole Randall, who swam together to shore
...
His wife and family broke down as they watched him shackled.

Funny his wife didn't break down when he was out boating drunk with a bikini clad 20 year old...

Maybe if they charged him with murder to start with...
"A jury convicted LaPointe in September of two counts of aggravated operating a watercraft under the influence."
WTF kinda charge is that?
