Boater's insurance?

Alright well i've always loved boating but never had my own boat.<br />Now i'm looking at anywhere from a 30-35' cruiser.<br /><br />and what's been racking my brain is the question of boater's insurance..<br />-Is it even required by law? (i'm in florida)<br />-whats a usual payment look like per month or 6-month for boater's insurance and for what kind of policy?<br /><br />anyone feel free to email me at ItsTheTreesFault@aol.com with any answers..

Probably the only "requirement" will be the banks, or your own checkbook's. Like any other insurance cost will be largely dependent on the value of your boat. I pay around $500 a year for full coverage for two boats (1998 Rendezvous and 1995 Dusky). Coverage includes loss value, $300K liability, and $200K pollution (make sure you have some of this in what ever policy you get).

Sorry, forgot to say that I bought my coverage through a commercial lines agency; they tend to have good access to a number of carriers. They beat the heck out of Allstate and the like.

The biggy is environmental cleanup insurance, incase you have a fuel spill after running aground on a coral reef.
