Anyone have their Boaters Safety course card and have it help with the cost of your insurance?? I was looking at the Kentucky Safety Course manual online and a 8 yr old child can pass this test (60 Questions). But was wondering if you get lower insurance rates in your state with your card??

I would hope so. Seems to me that it should be like a car. Any safety course should lower your rates...

My insurance company gave me a $10 discount per year. Course was $20, so it was paid for the second year.

I HIGHLY doubt it will lower your actual rates. But may qualify you for a one time discount, or a yearly discount, like I stated above.

I have State Farm and it lowers my yearly premium by 10%.

The few dollars I paid for the course 20 years ago has been returned many times.

It gets me 10% off my annual total policy price with Boat U.S. All I had to do was send in a copy of the certificate which when I took the course they gave me two copies of the certificate.

Everyone has to have it now in Canada so I am sure there will be no discounts.
I have our boat covered by the house insurance when it is at home and as an extension of the auto insurance when it is in tow or on the water. We have all our insurance with the one place and get a "reasonable" discount for that. Actually the insurance company suggested what i do with the boat and it is way cheaper than a separate policy.

Hey Wavenbye2 - and others posting here as well. There's an article I read that says it can definitely lower insurance costs. Check out http://www.boatinsurance.org to verify if you want, but I'm positive it will help (with most companies that is)
