Hay there fellow I-Boaters. So I have recently finished up rebuilding my 16' Larson Cimmaron open bow fishing boat with new Stringers, Deck, Foam, Seat Boxes, Carpet, etc... etc... and am just waiting to take it to a shop and have the motor tuned up for the summer. I have been going through and adding all the additional items that I might need and am wanting to ask the community here for a little more input. This is my first boat but not my first boating experience and have some things in my boat that I have noticed other people carry in theirs but am wondering if there is anything else that people carry in their boats from prior experiences. Right now I have a water-proof Plano box with two spare spark plugs, a flat head and phillips head screwdriver, a ratchet and spark plug socket, some zipties, and an assortment of screws. I am thinking of adding wrenches in sizes that are most commonly found on the motor and boat. I also have the obvious, an anchor and line, two ores, life vests, bouys (?), a whistle, and the other items that CA requires. Anything else that I might need or want?

Wire cutters are essential for cutting off crab traps or other things that may get tangled around your prop. A prop wrench, prop nut, thrust washer and cotter pin aren't a bad idea if you carry a spare prop.

I don't go anywhere without a radio, albeit CB or marine. I am totally not interested in "fixing" my motor if it breaks and will call in and fish until someone arrives. You could accomplish the same with a cell phone. Depending on where you are, a flare gun may be appropriate.

enjoy your baot! Sounds like yo are headed inthe right direction. I like to put in my tool box things that can be used to fix lots of stuff--like electrical wire both for current or tying stuff. A small hammer, a nail punch and a small block of wood. Marine lubricant (not WD40). Hose clamps (although zip ties are a close second). some gas line.

Jumper cables. And something to pull start your motor.

be sure your anchor is properly rigged. It is a very important piece of equipment b/c if you have problems, you want to stay put.

One of the handiest accessories I carry in my boat and use the most is a sponge. I use it the cleanup up wipe down and bail water with. Also not sure if you have anything electrical in your boat. But I carry spare fuses.

Some folks carry those booster pack boxes for the battery. Good thing to have if you ever run down your battery. Not neccesary if you can rope start your OB though. Like others have said, wire cutters, wire, electrical tape, duct tape (the handy man's secret weapon), pliers, common wrenches and stuff like that. I keep a water tight box full of tools on the boat, but I'm a little paranoid. LOL. A few common sockets a ratchet and a couple of extensions are good to have too.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned a Seatow or TowboatsUS membership.

Re: Boating Accessories

Thanks all, this has been a huge help, and besides some things I should have thought of there were some things that I would have never thought about.
