I'm fairly new to boating and sometimes get lost with the basics of the discussions around here. For example...bellows...what the hell are they? Is there any place to find a good glossary of terms and parts. I'm fairly handy but not all that familiar with most of these terms. HELP!!!!

I'm not trying to be rude, but if you really want to learn this stuff, read every post... You will find a lot of pictures (associated with terms). I read almost every post and hardly any of them have to do with my boat/power, but I have learned a LOT over a short period of time by doing this.

Anyway, I hope you don't take this as rude, I'm a novice too, but reading the posts entirely has taught me the most...

Hope that helps a little.

If it's parts you are wondering about, go search iboats parts section and put in the word you are wondering about, like "exhaust bellows".

You didn't mention what kind of engine and drive your boat has, but an OEM service manual, one for the engine and one for the drive system, is the best way to go. You no only learn the terms and what things are called, but you learn how to fix them also.
Even looking at a parts catalog would help identifying parts, but it won't help in the how or why to fix them.

Seriously, I'm not an idiot and I do spend a lot of time reading the posts. Just looking for a little context and the meaning of certain common terms. By the way I have a 1991 OMC outdrive.

Re: boating dictionary

to answer your question, bellows are the rubber boots between the hull and the outdrive. they keep you from sinking and water out of the system.
