i want to plan a trip in a few years to the bahamas to dive the reefs. the boat i have now is to much trouble pulling down there from Tifton GA, so im looking at getting a smaller 22 foot bayliner 2252 will this type of boat be sufficient enough to make the trip? it should be a 56 mile voyage acording to the maps. iv never been no more than 10 miles out. would the condtions be about the same? what time of the year would be best for planing this trip?

also so far i know i need a yellow flag??
passport, and
$150.00 port fee.

anything eles i need to know about?

I dunno what size you have now but the larger boat would be worth the extra effort to cross with. Can you do it in a 22 sure thing, lots of folks have done it in that size and even smaller, but the gulf stream can get ugly quickly and a 22 is mighty small if the weather gets nasty. I have been a cross a few times in other peoples boats and I would not even think about taking my 21' across. I vote tow the 22 to the Keys and have a vacation there or bring something bigger.

I made the trip twice in my 23 ft. Cuddy. I went in June and both times had calm seas. I agree, the keys are as good if not better than the Bahamas however, there is something about traveling across in you're own boat.
