Folks,
I've just purchased an E-Tec 25HP for my 14' aluminum boat and i'm waiting in excruciating pain for the evinrude factory to churn it out and ship it to me
I'm a bit concerned about the added weight of the new engine (158lbs - a difference of almost 80lbs from my 7.5hp).
I'm a big guy (250lb) and with my current engine, fuel tank, and a battery I'm not able to get up on plane by myself. If i have my wife sit in the bow seat, she get's on plane and moves along nicely.
I'm wondering how one goes about judging adequate/accurate weight distribution - should the seats be level when the boat is at a stop? or is it a matter of judging by performance while on plane?
I was thinking of installing a set of those small RV bubble levels to help me ensure i have decent weight distribution - is that silly? I generally travel with 6 crab traps, and usually 4 people so I have a good deal of weight on at most times.
Second, can anyone tell me the difference between say, removing the battery in the stern all together vs. moving it to the bow? Does anyone have a battery in their bow? (is it dangerous to have it sloshing around up there?)
thanks!!
