I live in nother va/ pw county. I usually boat down at lake anna every weekend , but I want to put my boat in the potomac this weekend. Is there anything I need to know to keep things safe? Where is the best spot to put in? I was going to put in down at the occoquan area. Also, I wanted to try and head up to DC. Was worried about gas stop and such. Any online info would be great. Preferably distances and gas stops. I have a 98 1750 bayliner with a 3.0L merc in it.

There are several commercial marinas in the D.C. area and around the Anacostia, I don't think you'll have any trouble finding fuel. I don't know of any online references. As for safety, the river's pretty low these days and you definitely want to keep an eye out for shallow spots and floating (or semi-submerged) debris (tree limbs and the like).
