Hello all,

I hope im calling by the right name im redoing the boat bunks its the wood and carpet that the boat sits on while its on the trailer. I was told that when I recover them only do the top and sides leave the bottom uncovered cause then it wont hold water and the bunks will last longer is this true or should I cover them all the way round.

Thank you,

I would cover them all the way around, but I don't suppose you have to. Water will leak right through it irregardless. Are you changing the wood out as well? Another thing to consider while your at it would be some poly bunk covers for easy launch and retrieval.

i covered mine about 3/4 of the way around, leaving the mounting points uncovered so the bolt would hold solid, and not have to deal with the carpet squishing and the bolt coming loose in the future. basically, i did as much as i could and still leave the mounting points exposed.

I wrap about an inch around the bottom sides. Put the staples in side ways, increases the restraining force, about an inch apart.

yes, this is true. tons of staples. I went thru over 3 or 400 staples doing my 6 boards on mine. I also glued the carpet to the bunks, thats the way mine were when i took them off. Just some light aerosol upholstery adhesive to keep everything where it should be.

And use stainless steel staples. I use a pneumatic upholstery staple gun and put in a ton of staples.

I have a Migic Tilt Trailer and the binks are open on the bottom, wrapped on the top and sides only...

I wrapped them entirely, like presents. That's how the originals from 1993 were done, figured I'd do the same.
