Hey guys so i finally got my boat splashed, it runs good well after i switched to my rebuilt rgc 2brl. there is no water in the oil (if you have been following me you know about that) and PO took a part out of the drive to use on another boat so it wouldnt shift out of reverse. interesting story but not the time.

So any ways now to my concern i want to install a water temp gauge i have the gauge and the sensor typical one wire sensor on a 1975 mercuriser 140. how would i go about wiring it ill post a pic of the gauge in a few. But what wires are necessary.

Thx Ryan

UPDATE:

Here is the pic from left to right terminals are listed as S G I with the light at the top 2012-03-14_21.07.17.jpg

you need a sender wire, a 12 volt (+) ignition, and a ground

if you want the guage to be lit, you need a wire for the light as well

yes, commonly called a sender, not sensor

"S" = sender wire, tan

"I" = ignition, purple

"G" = ground, black

the spade tab on top is for the light, blue wire in the dash wiring

thanks sir not sure if any of the wiring will be same colors as to this boat is a wiring nightmare with a merc engine on a Volvo drive which i might say is a heck of a lot easier to maintain or pull the engine if need be no alignment necessary. but still wiring to gauges not so much at least the oil tach and voltage work now i just gotta figure out what all these switches do and why my lights and bilge don't work ha ha thanks ryan

a digital multimeter and jumper leads are your best friend in this situation

If the boat has any other gauges, connect the +12 volt, ground and light wires to the same terminals on any other gauge that works. The sender wire goes to the sender on the engine.
