Boatyard liability

I am going to paint my boat one way or another. I thought about getting a local boatyard to put it up on stands for me so I could have more room to work. I have a small urban yard that I could use but I thought also if I can get it hauled somewhere maybe I can pay someone else to do it for me :D

When I talked with the boatyard they wanted me to have insurance or write them a damage waiver in case THEY broke something moving it
Why would I want my insurance company (I have none anyway) or myself to pay for their negligence if their equipment is unsafe or their employees are untrained? Is that how all of them operate?

The Restoration thread is probably not the right place to be asking this question.

Since my boat is under restoration this is on topic compared to some other threads in this forum. Let the moderators decide :D

this moderator says, "first let's not get testy!!!!!" you are working on their property. you do what they want, or you work in your back yard.

I think that insurance was so if the boat falls on you on their land they are not liable.

All the yard contracts I've signed waived the yards of any idiotic or negligent conduct they implement.

As such, I?ve butted heads to maintain safety with these rocket scientists.

If I'm paying them, I want to see their insurance.

when you put a boat in a marina, the first requirement is a rider on the insurance, to cover the marina. this is so if your boat catches fire, and burns out the marina, and all the boats, your insurance is responsible. or your boat breaks loose for the dock and drifts into another causing damage. it is plan and simple, they have to cover themselves.
