Bogged out!

Hello all,

2002 180LX 3.0L Merc

I have been having this problem now for 5 years, everything runs fine except for take the off. If i throttle forward very slow I am ok, but if i throttle forward at a medium pace or fast as i was going to pull a skier, the motor Bogs out and almost stalls for about 3-4 seconds then catches and takes off.

Is there a small adjustment i can do on my own. Any ideas?

go to the adults only section up top and download the manual for your engine.
Have a peek at the carb section and read up on how to adjust the accelerator pump.
Has this boat been tuned up in the 5 years you've been having this problem?

With the engine turned OFF, remove the flame arrestor, disconnect the throttle cable, while looking down the carb throat, open the carb throttle completely.

Did you see the twin streams of fuel from the accelerator pump?

Was at a consistent stream that lasted during the throttle opening?

If NOT, then it is time to rebuild the carb, following the instructions in the manual that Jason directed you to download.

Make sure that your carb kit includes a NEW accelerator pump plunger, some factory kits do not include the plunger and must be ordered seperately.

No, the boat has never been tuned up. I will download the manual. Are there any other simple tasks i could look at as far as tune up go?

Just a little help needed, i was in the adults only section, but had trouble finding my engine ,can anyone please have a quick look and tell me what manual to download.
3.0L merc Alpha one

The manual will walk you through a pre-season tuneup. It pretty much covers everything. If you run into any snags, we're here to help.

Ayuh,... I agree with lowkee on the Manual,...

You might also want to check out the Summerization,+ even the Winterization threads up in the Adults Only section,...
Between the 2, about All of the possible Boat Motor/ Drive Maintenance items are Covered....
