Bogging on mid/high end of throttle

I've had this issue for a while but it is progressively getting worse. At first it was only at the extreme high end of the throttle, close to wide open. It would feel like I'd gathered weeds on my prop or like I was cavitating. It would go away at lower throttle. Now it's starting to get worse, it's like a complete loss of power, almost like you pulled the kill switch or something. If you keep on the throttle and don't let off when it does this it will completely die out. If you let off down to a low idle or just above idle the engine stays running and it idles pretty well over all. I am wondering how to test whether this condition is happening because of an ignition issue or if I should just rebuild the carb. Since it only happens at mid/higher throttle I really can't test it well on the hose and it's kinda tough to check it on the water while running at mid/high throttles. I guess a carb rebuild is cheap enough before I start throwing coils, powerpacks, etc on it.

If you have proper compression and spark on all cylinders, what you are describing is a fuel problem... clean the carb.

Hint: It would help if we knew what engine you're speaking of.

And do not continue to run it this way, it can become very costly when permanent damage is done, which will happen if the carb is dirty.

try a remote tank first hard connected to the fuel line in the motor to eliminate fuel path/air leak issues

Sorry for being a goober, it's a 1995 Evinrude 30 horse. No fuel line leaks that I can see, and the primer bulb remains firm, although I think it could be firmer. I may do a fuel pump rebuild at the same time.

Sounds like debris in the high speed circuit....a thorough cleaning should cure it.

Thanks for confirming my diagnosis. I suppose that's the easiest/cheapest method, it is just daunting because I've never rebuilt a carb before. It will be a learning experience I imagine.

Also, it has no fuel filter currently, should I add one? Did they even come with one?

The filter is at the fuel pump.

Cant hurt to run an additional one inline though.
