1977 120 OMC with 4 cyl chev.
Was running great on test run. Filled up gas tank and took it out the next day (after the trade of course), ran great for about 20 minutes then started to lose power. It would get power for a little bit then lose power, kinda learching. Would get back to 4000 rpm for a few then bog back down.
Seems like fuel delivery problem. pulled fuel filter it was clean and full of gas, line to carb was clear. Thinking of blowing air in the line to the tank??
Where else should I look.
BTW: I'm the guy that asked if I should trade my old truck for this boat. Posted too late to get much feed back before trade. The boat seems to have been cared for well and moves/shifts great. Hope this is not the begining of future problems. The truck I traded needed several repairs and paint (multi-colored), it might have netted me $1000-1200, so I don't feel that bad. I just want the boat to last a year or two to see if we use a boat enough to get a newer one for more $$.
Thanks -- Rich

Re: Bogging out

Not a good idea to blow air into the tank. There is a check valve at the tank outlet known as an antisiphon valve which may not like that. Better to remover the antisiphon valve and pull out the pivk up tube and then clean it. You may also be able to see into the tank to see if there is any crud (like leaves bugs etc. Chances are there are and filling the tank after sitting stirred it all up. Just one possibility, there are others such as the fuel pump itself and the carb. Start with the easier (and cheaper) stuff.

I Agree it sounds like a Fuel Delivery Issue,...
You Can't Blowback into the Tank,.... There's a Checkvalve at the Tank Outlet Fitting,......
Take it apart,+ Clean it out,... And there Might be a Screen at the other end of the Fuel Pickup Tube,. Inside the Tank,.....

But,.... I'm thinking that Because the Filter was Full of Clean Fuel,.........
Your Fuelpump might Not be up to the Task,........
Check the Fuel Pressure at the Carb Inlet,.........
BTW,... There Might be another Filter there Too............

Then Of Course,...............
There's the Carb. No, FBT.....Just lengthy at times....Did you find your problem? I must have missed the post! You do keep at it, and I give you credit for that.... But I see many future posts on this particular boat, and I hope I'm wrong.......JK

I'm just kidding.......

My wife was bugging me to "bring the boat to a mech"......she said "I know you like the challenge, but...."

Well she is right, I do like the challenge and I I have narrowed my problem down to the valve train on the #3 cylinder.......you can check out the post here if you want.

I don't mind working on the boat too much as long as I am making progress..........

Yup, tony you're getting there. My bet is on a burnt or tuliped valve. You'll need to pull the head next. I hope you're running again, 75% better than 0% boating IF you trust it not to leave your stranded in the big pond.

Re: Bogging out

Well Bondo,
Sounds like OMC has kicked your a$$ a time or two. ;)

If I had found this web site sooner I may have heeded the warnings, but what's done is done.

Went out to do a hose test today, hooked up and one turn of the key she fired up and ran a little rough for couple seconds then ran real smooth (maybe cause I had pulled filter earler).

Brought rpm's to 3k then 4k, was little hessitant at first then accelerated fine. I did this couple more times and she ran great, then shut it down.

I pulled fuel line from carb, hooked up pressure tester, fired up, got 4.5 to 5 lbs. I'm thinking that's good. (??)

What do you guy's think? Maybe a carb problem

I guess I will need to take to the lake for a load test.
Thanks,
Rich
