I have a 78 mercury 900 that is having some issues when in gear. We've replaced the stator, switch box, plugs, distributor cap, and timing belt. It idles fine and throttles fine. When trying to get it in gear it boggs down and dies. It something to do with the load, if I throttle it in reverse (it never engages reverse either) then throw it in gear it runs fine 70% of the time. From neutral to forward it boggs under the load and dies. The engine seems to be running just fine as long as there isn't a load on it. Thoughts? Time to take it to a real mechanic
