I just purchased this boat and motor and need help. Its a 1986 Chaparral 204 with a 1986 Johnson 175. The boat sat for a few years so I drained the gas, put in fresh, changed water seperater, fuel filter and plugs. The motor starts and sounds good on muffs. Then I put it in the water, it started ok and idled ok but when I try to throttle up after going thru no wake zone (about 1000rpm)it bogs and stalls. It will start right back up and rev freely in neutral but in gear will not go above 1000rpm without stalling.Im going on vacation this Friday and hope I can have the boat ready or I'll never hear the end of it from my wife. (She loves boating)

I'm in a similar situation. Ive asked a few times but havent realy gotten an answer. BTW Are you smelling unburnt fuel at wide open throttle ?

I'm going to look at my fuel filter today, I seriously hope its something stupid like that because I don't like what others have told me.

I'm not able to get wide open throttle, I cant get above 1000 rpm in gear without stalling out. In neutral it revs nice but I wouldn't rev it to high in neutral.

1. Check to make sure ALL carbs are clean and working properly
2. Check plugs and make sure you are getting spark to ALL the plugs.
3. If there is unburnt fuel in the cylinder(s), you don't have any or not enough spark.

My issue was carb and the power pack. Good luck.
