What I want to know is what is that suit he's wearing. It was definitely an anti-personnel IED. He got up and walked away, abeit a bit hard of hearing.

Multiple layers of woven Kevlar fabric, well-designed blast suit. It saved his life, for sure!

Yep, being in textiles 50+ years, I can tell you that protective, ballistic, blast related fabrics, garments and armor are really big business these days, from military, law enforcement, fire protection. They're real life savers!

Looks like he barely took a hit compared to if he was standing on the other side. The suit did its job for sure. I find it hard to believe the a suit like that could be engineered without there being hearing protection. I bet that will show up on his performance evaluation.

That guy needs to be thanking his God every day. I looked real close at the video and found these photos http://photoblog.msnbc.msn.com/_new...inspects-explosion-rips-car-apart-in-thailand I will tell you that had the bomb gone off "properly" that bomb guy and his suit would have been vaporized at about 18,000 FPS.

In the photos I posted you can see whatever "powdered explosive" they used blown into the air. I suspect they were trying to use ammoniam nitrate and it DID NOT detonate. What ever did detonate was probably the initiation charge and THANKFULLY it was focused the other way.

Best guess...... they did not use the right "fertilizer" or prepared it wrong. The police later in the video are pouring the white powder out into a bag. Had it all detonated there would have been an orange flash and a ton of white smoke.

Yes that is one lucky man and one VERY used bomb disposal suit.

IMHO lucky that the blast did not blow him back into one of those posts. I doubt that suit would protect him from a broken back.
