I have a 2003 Bomb/Johnson 50, and at the joint on the lower unit the paint is flaking off and there is corrosion. A guy told me that this is common on the Bomb/Johnsons. Is this right?? I was thinking of having it blasted and resprayed with an epoxy sealer, then repainted. Anyone else have this problem?

Is it obvious that this is from a defect in the paint and not from it hitting something?...If so i would take it back to the dealer and hold them accountable to make it right. These engines cost way to much to have ANY defects.

I agree on the defect thing, but could it also be a problem with improper anodes or some such electrical current corrosion problem? I don't know much about that stuff, but have seen pictures of corrosion that starts with what looks like flaking paint on the lower unit.
