Looking for a good product to bond alum to marine grade ply.

I tried Gorilla Glue because I had some and it did not hold.

I did sand the alum. and the wood with 220 grit sandpaper.

Thanks
Jeff

What are you planning to do? If it's a small job, JB Weld will work. If it's a larger area, you may want to try epoxy with some sort of filler as a glue (which JB weld basically is).

Bolts and rivets have worked for me. :D

The reason or purpose is important .....

3m5200 if the wood and aluminum are roughed up with say 36 or 60 grit paper. It will take a long time to dry but should remain clamped for at least 72 hrs.

Will be mounting downriggers and tracks for rod holders.

Thought it would be a good ideal to beef up the gunnels.
I will be using bolts not pop rivets to hold the alum top plate to the the backing so bonding is probably going to be overkill.

Add the fact that all the tracks will be through bolted as well it is probably complete overkill.

Since I am doing a complete restoration I thought I would just go ahead and really make it a solid rebuild.

I thought about 5200 but would like something that lays out flatter and would give me complete surface coverage hence the hope that some sort of glue or epoxy would work. Then I would be able to cover the entire surface verse a caulking type adhesive.

Thanks
Jeff

spread the 5200 with a putty knife and then clamp or tighten bolts, you get full coverage...

but its really not needed since your through bolting anyway.

5200 has my vote. Combined with mechanical fasteners you should have no
problems.
