Ok, enough with motor problems, now how about my hull. My boat is a 1975 bumblebee bass boat, and it has alot of age on it, especially the hull. No major cracks and damage is present on the hull, but there is alot of small nicks and chips on the hull causing the fiberglass to be exposed, especially on the V.
Heres the question for the experts. Can regular Car Bondo be used to fill in these nicks and chips. They are small so not much maintenance should be required. If Bondo is not a good idea, what is. I know there is something out there that can fix this small problem, if so, someone tell me, and give me good pointers. Thanx for any help and happy fishing fellas.

I used Bondo Glass waterproof with glass strands in it. Seems to work just fine.

All polyester fillers, no matter if it says marine or not, will absorb water, hence the need to prime and paint the surface after you've "bondo'd" it....

Marine tex along with other epoxy based fillers are waterproof...

Above the waterline, you have my blessings to use as much regular ol' bondo as ya want.. I use it... Below the waterline, use marine tex.. ;)

Im not coserned at all with the looks of this boat. Its just a good trusting, and ugly fishing boat thats just for fun. As long as I can get the exposed fiberglass sealed, i'll be happy. Also, I need something that goes well with wax. As soon as Uncle sam lets me off for a chance, I wanna wax this hull for some good performance, but not until these chips are patched. What about regular metal filled apoxy?

Hello
there is no adhesion problems that I am aware of. the problem is water absorption. if it absorbs enough it will cause delamination of the gelcoat and the underlying resin. in severe cases it will cause the layers of matt in the polyester to delaminate. marine tex is an excellet filler. or you can sand it prep it and re-gelcoat it.always use the products that are designed for the application and things go easy :) :) gel coat is soley for the abatement of water absorption. and even it fails sometimes. :)
Good luck and keep us posted
