I just purchased A boat that has bottom paint. The boat is 39' so I will not be taking tha boat out on the water.Without knowing what type of paint is on the bottom. Will the old paint have to be sanded off?

If you plan to put new paint on you will need to get it removed. You need to find a place that has someone who knows how to remove bottom paint, it is dangerus when you don't know what it is! if it is new bottom paint wait till next season. if you do get it removed and put new on use: Interlux Micron XL

Hi Frank<br />Can you ask the previous owner or have the broker ask, what paint was used. Most of the time bottom painting isn't that big of deal. But as sloopy states it can unhealthy. Most work yards will power wash for a small fee (well worth it). The just hit the rough/loose spots with a sander (if necessary), they should be few. Mask off the water line and roll on a fresh coat. You are doing well to line up your ducks before you haul out. This save a lot of time in the yard and money too.
