bottom paint question

In our area - bottom paint is a must. our craft has been painted every year - but dry docked, as it will be this year. I am wondering - should I put on a coat this season - do I need to sand or prep the old area? I will tape off the line so it's neat, but wondering how much prep - or do I just paint over the old paint.

You did not mention what brand and type of bottom paint you have. Different paints have different answers.

I use Interlux Bottomkote and only need to paint every other year. My "dry dock" is the trailer and the conditions are mild here, but the paint is in good condition. A light scraping is all I need for the next coat, but as I said it is highly dependent on the paint type.
