After I remove the barnacles on my boat hull I will have to remove multiple layers of ancient bottom paint that has ablated in some places (where there are billions of barnacle remains) but not others. My local Home Depot has Jasco brand Marine Paint Remover that claims to be non-toxic and safe for fiberglass and gelcoat. It claims to remove multiples layers of paint in one application.

Anyone have experience with it? It is worth using? Any suggestions?

The paint remover you are talking about is not toxic, but all that old paint you are going to remove is.Wear the right saftey equipment and put down sheets of plastic under and around the boat. Its some bad stuff.I see you are in Fla,there laws goven removel of toxic paint and yes on boats.Watch out!

Ditto what Prockvoan says and remember that if you are sanding the old bottom paint wear an appropriate air filter (a good one not the cheesy white temporay ones) and keep the dust off of your skin for extended periods. The stuff is toxic and is not good for human or barnacle contact.

I agree with all of you. And I must point out that I love wet and dry sandpaper. I use it WET! No dust! That, and a lot of running water helps reduce the toxic threat greatly.

Just remember that the water is also a great agent to distribute that toxic sludge all over the place. The purpose of the plastic drop cloth was to catch the old paint for proper disposal. Environment & personal safety prevail, as they should.
