Hey,
I'm new to the boating world. I thought that I would get a jump on the season and buy bottom paint for my boat. I have a 27' 1988 SunRunner. I will be boating on the Delaware River, near Philadelphia PA. I see that there are various types of paints. Does anyone know what kind of paint I should buy. My boat has been on land for a year, and has been previously painted. Does it matter what kind I get. I see antifouling, copper, etc. I'm lost. any help would be great. Also, how well does the bottom have to be sanded or cleaned. i have been reading some on it, but still lost.
Thanks, Al Kelley

Re: Bottom Paint

some paints will not adhere to others. if you can lay your hands on a west marine catalog, it has some good info on this subject. it would very much help if you knew what kind of paint was on the boat now. if i'm not mistaken, if it is a vinyl based paint, then nothing else will stick to it and it will need to be removed if you use another type of paint such as a modified epoxy or a ablative paint.........good luck.........
