Hey all,
I was a novice at restorations a few years back when i started my project and had no idea about antifouling paint. The only thing I was told was that you put it below the water line (this was before I knew about this site). Anyway, I went out to west marine and bought a nice gallon jug of regular antifouling paint and painted the bottom of my beauty. Needless to say, two years of metal corrosion is beginning to look quite unsightly. So, my project for the next two weekends is to strip and repaint. This is where I need your help. I don't want to make any mistakes this time around.
What I plan on doing is to completely strip the old paint using paint stripper. Then I plan on priming the whole bottom of the boat with rustoleum metal/aluminum primer after giving it a light sanding and cleaning it with 50/50 water vinegar. Then I plan on painting it with rustoleum above the waterline paint (I trailer the boat so its not in the water for longer than 6 hours at any one time). I know you guys like gluvit but I have heard it doesn't do too well on thR outside of the hull so I think I am going to pass on using that at all (my pockets are spreading a little thin anyway). So, does it sound like I have a plan or is there something else you guys would suggest. Thanks in advance.
