Bottom Painting Issue

I had the bottom of my 1984 Sea Ray cuddy repainted by a local shop with a good reputation. I went to check on it today and the boat was done and back on the trailer. To my surprise, I noticed rectangular unpainted patches where the boat bottom rested on hull supports while being painted. To say the least, I was disappointed to see this. Am I warranted to raise hell about it?

I would say YES. You paid to have the bottom of the boat repainted and they didn't paint the entire bottom.

I wouldn't raise hell, just be sure they complete the job. You may have dropped by before they finished.

I would just mention it to them and ask them to finish the job. Obviously they did not re-adjust the supports when the painted. I bet they will make it right.

Perhaps they aren't finished yet. You say you 'stopped in'. Did they call you and tell you it was done or are you assuming? Can the spots be painted while it's on the trailer?

I was called and told the boat had two coats of bottom paint applied and was back on the trailer ready for pick up. I'll try to talk with them on Monday. The four areas are only about 4x8 inches, but they bug me!

you are correct that they need to be painted. I am sure it was an oversight and some new young employee will soon be "instructed."

They could have messed it and will touch up, but it could also be the company has a good reputation from folks that never look. I been painting my hull, and last year took it to a "premier" Merc dealer with a good rep. I saw the same spots and they said that was wax from the wax paper used. OK, after launching I noticed it wasn't wax. Dealer said bring it back, so I did, hauled it for 35 miles one way. Also noticed when I loaded the boat back on the trailer, my bunks pealed the paint off the hull it to arrears. Needless to say I'm not happy. So I paid for a three coat bottom paint and got a crappy job.
