One problem after another, I took everyones advice and sealed around the my sterndrive with 5200 silicone and another problem came to light. The bottom right bolt that mounts to the transom was broken in two. What should I do about this? Can I still wait to fix in winter when I replace transom wood? Should I find some way to pull the rest of the bolt out? I doesn't seem to want to come out. Here is a pic of the bolt, its broken in two from the inside as you guys probally already know from the pic.

First of all, don't confuse 5200 marine sealer with silicon...... A big difference between the two. You NEVER want to use silicone below the water line, 5200 is perfect for permanant parts, and below the water line. It's an adheisive and really sticks.

To the bolt. If you are going to repair the transom, and the bolt isn't leaking, leave it alone till you fix the transom.
But I wouldn't trust leaving it in the water un-attended.

Thanks alot Don, should I have used the 5200 sealer? I hope I will be able to get drive off when fix transom. The bolt is not leaking anymore since sealer. I'm just afraid to put it in reverse very much. By the look of the bolt its been broken for years. I'm going to have the pro's fix the transom. Thanks again.

Just putting the 5200 around the edge isn't going to cause a problem, that can be cut very easily.
The bolt probably corroded off due to water in the transom. Just use reverse at idle or very little throttle and be aware of possible leaks, and you should be able to finish the summer.

Are you going to be on the lake Labor Day weekend? I'm making a camping/boating trip to Cumberland Point.

I will be at Alligator II and on the lake. I live at Alligator II for most of summer on Pluckebaum. Your welcome to come by and check out the transom or I can go to Cumberland Point.
