I need to replace the bottom yoke of the swivel bracket that attaches to the motor. It is a U-shaped piece w/ 2 hex bolts that go to the bottom of the mid-unit. Problem is the shift shaft runs through it, so removing the lower unit doesn't give me access to it. Can this be done by removing the mid-section. Does this require any new gaskets or special techniques. I've never had a need to remove the mid-section before.

Motor is 1989 Mariner 75hp 3cyl OC170850....Thanks in advance. This was asked a few times a couple of years ago, but answers were never given.

To remove the yoke the shift shaft has to be removed that means removing the powerhead so you will need the powerhead to mid section gasket once the shaft is removed the yoke maybe changed

I realize the powerhead has to be removed for the top yoke, but even for the bottom yoke. Won't the mid-section drop and let the shift shaft in place so I can slip a bottom yoke up and around it... If this involves removing the powerhead, I think i'll pass or I may buy a yoke, cut it in half and weld it back together around the shift shaft.

I guess I never really thought about it but with the lower unit removed and the lower snap ring removed once the lower mount bolts are out I think that you are right the mid section can be raised and the yoke changed
