Brought home a 1977 SeaRay today. It's going to need some elbow grease but I think it's pretty solid. This thing has one thick hull. Going to tear through it and go over everything. It has the Volvo Penta 305 engine & outdrive. I paid $700 for it.

Transom & stringers good? I would be surprized if they are.

Will you have in the water this season or just do the minimum to keep it safe?

Found only one spot next to the engine where it's rotted. Looks like a box with thin plywood and foam inside, doesn't look to bad as far as labor goes. Everything else looks very good on this boat. Transom is solid and super thick, couldn't find any problems. I'll be going over everything to make sure it stays safe and running without any issues before I put it on the water. I'm very surprised by what I've found today or should I say didn't find.

The guy I bought it from our whoever it was, does not know how to do wiring at all. For one he used solid copper house wiring for a lot of the DIY stuff on this boat.

Did you take core samples of the transom? That would be impressive to find a boat of that vintage with a solid original transom! Good luck with it.

I removed the drain plug and the housing, and the wood inside that seemed solid and not sponge at all. I'll be removing the outdrive soon and I'm sure I'll see the core better once that is removed.
