Bought a 290A drive and this part was sent

Anyone know what this item is for? I bought a 290A drive and the guy was great and sent everything he had laying around. I just cannot find this on a exploded view of the drive but am told it is for steering. It says Rack System.... Manufactured by Teleflex... on the back

Anyone know the name or part number of this part?

As always all help appreciated.

Steering shaft and pinion gear for teleflex steering system ?
Probably scrap metal in most cases.

I'm bettin' the splines wont line up with your coupler.

BTW it is a helm for a teleflex square rack system.

That is exactly what my boat has for steering. As others have said, it is what the steering wheel mounts on. The gear in the back makes the cable slide.
