Bought a Classic truck....now to ship...hmmm

Well...never say never. I found a really nice classic truck in North East California and low and behold.....well, I bought it.
It's a 72' Chevy 1/2 ton....rust free, sweet truck.
Now, my challenge is to figure out how to get this back to either Bellingham or Blaine, Washington where I will drive down and pick it up.
Does anyone have any ideas on shipping? ....or any contacts?.....or interested in getting this thing north?
The truck is currently located about 2 hrs west of Reno, not too far across the California state line and the trip itself is about 14-1/2 hrs drive back...according to google.
Any ideas or contacts (or interest???) around this are extremely welcome.
The other option is to get a cheap flight down to Reno...meet the owner/seller and drive it back myself. I'm still trying to work our the optimum approach...but I'm interested in any feedback or ideas or reliable, legitimate, recommended contacts or reasonable shipping companies?
Bring it on:D:D

Nice score. I've done the drive before a couple of times from Edmonton down to Nevada, Arizona, Cali, etc.

My friend used a website to have truckers bid on the shipping and you can pick a reputable shipper.

I'd do the drive as you can do some parts shopping, mods before you bring her back :) I'm sure you can get a cheap flight and enjoy the drive.

Fly and drive will most likely be your cheapest alternative.

I asked a few friends about this awhile back and was told to use either of these to company`s as they are very reputable.

....of course, its a Chevy. If it was a Ford....I'm not so sure;):D

Good info on the shippers. I'm going to fire off a bunch of 'request for quotes' this weekend to see how the prices compare to just flying into Reno cheap and doing the 1-1/2 day trip back.
I've got a buddy who said he'd love to do the road trip thing but this time of year just gets so busy getting ready for Christmas its hard to focus on getting organized for that kind of thing.
Hmmm, more to think about.:p

And the cheap gas prices...and seeing if it was a ggood deal on the ride back an adventure you might want to forget or always remember

Its funny...I had a conversation about the operating costs regarding my Silverado the other day. To be quite honest gas is such a small part of my overall budget it is hardly worth being mentioned.
On a new car (or truck?) depreciation is what....$3000 a year?-ish, that is about $7-8 bucks a day easy on top of fuel costs. Arguably, with a classic vehicle depreciation is next to zero and on some choices they go up every year.
Either way, the trip back as a gas cost issue isn't really on my radar at all and believe me, I do know what its like to fill up these trucks and run them on the highway for a few hours and I do know they need a lot of 'fillin'.
However, this is my conundrum is to figure out if the 'adventure' is worth it....or simply ship it close and I'll 'adventure' that home for a half day.
I am looking forward to getting this thing back home and putting my 'stamp' upon it though and getting back into the rhythm this summer of hitting the show n' shines. :D:);)
All Good:)

Not to sure on how to get it home but make sure your paper work is in order at the border and for ICBC. I have heard of a few night mares that took years to sort out.
Nice find always liked that body style. I have a 78 chev I have been thinking about restoring. Your giving me the bug. :D

You need it just might be....one of them. I've got a 2500 Silverado/Duramax 4wd, my wife has a (company) Dodge 1500 4wd, we've got a 4-runner, a 66' Chev 1/2 ton and a separate 72' Chev 1/2 ton, so I'm pretty much covered. (yikes).
Anywhooo, I'm selling the 4-runner, the other '72 and probably the Silverado (great truck- but too big for av. city use).
I've been wigglin' my way back to the classic vehicle hobby over the last (2) years so I figure this is pretty good and practical starting point.;)
I'm still checking into the best way to close the distance between that truck and me...what with all the Christmas stuff closing in very fast.
All Good

You know - one of the most rewarding aspects of buying and owing the Scout was flying down to North Carolina and towing it back to Canada. It was a leisurely couple of days through some gorgeous parts of the US I hadn't seen before.

This was taken outside the PO's bank where we had just done the deal after a successful sea trial.

It was a gorgeous Friday evening; perfect weather, I had me my dream boat I had searched North America for and just two thousand kilometres of highway between that parking lot and its new home. It was a really great road trip.

Good point...and this is probably, ultimately what I'm going to do. Shipping info is very slow coming.
I need to get a few back up contingencies in place for any possible 'road issues'.
It looks like you rented a truck for the haul back Scoutabout? Did you do a 'one-way' drop charge?
One option I have is to drive down with the Duramax and a car trailer and haul it back that way. It is a longer trip for sure but maybe a little easier on the nerves.....or not?
I did a fly and drive back about 15 years ago on my '66 that I bought out of Florida. Everything went pretty well although on the way back I had to put new points in it in Pennsylvania...no biggy.
More to come on this....;):)
