Well it's been almost a year, wife is jonesin to go out on the new to me boat.
Looks like someone ran it up on the trailer to fast (and maybe drunk). What can I do to waterproof the holes before I have time to properly repair the holes and worry about cosmetics? Should I use resign and cloth, Marine tex, epoxy putty?
Your input please!

Thanks Bond-o,
Is there a good method to applying the marine tex to a vertical surface?

That's a damn shame. I don't know why people insist on drving up onto trailers.

Slather on some marine bondo for now and go boating. Looks like a good winter project to me.

Remember your hull is GelCoat and Marine tex is Epoxy. Epoxy sticks to ANYTHING but Gel Coat does not like Epoxy soooooo.... if you plan on going back in the winter with gelcoat you will have to grind out the marine tex and re gel Coat everything. If you mix up some gel coat paste now and do your repairs you won't have that problem later on.

I'm just sayin...:D

It struck me as funny as I looked at the last picture with the bold letters on the trailer saying EZ LOADER. LOL. OK not so EZ afterall.

I used marine tex on mine and then buffed it out when my wife told me she pulled in the anchor when she hadnt in a storm. Banged the side of the boat a couple times before I realized what was happening. Thank goodness we were in very shallow water so it wasnt out very far and it didnt get rapped up in the prop.

I was also told at the time that Gelcoat will not stick to the marine tex. Mine is an old beat up boat, so I didnt really care, but patching with marine tex and buffing it definately looks good enough for me.

Personally I'd just run it as is and fix it the right way later. You are going to have to do a little grinding and feathering anyway when you go to fix it. Then it appears to just be a gel coat repair from there.

Hello DC20...

It just blows my mine how some will just "chime" in with Worthess information m8...

NO.. You dont have a simple "fill" with tex or paste of ANY kind there..( possible small scratches aside )..

You have some glass repairs there m8...

Yea..you Might get away with ... hmm..lemme see.. coat every glass damage with poly and go have fun...

However DID ANYone notice your Bow EYE is kinda sorta BENT ? .. now how did that happen ? hmm.. so your going out with your jonesin wife to have fun .. and what happens when that boat lets loose on your trailer ??

Im only playing devils avocate here..but I Have seen eyes torn out in transit m8..and the pics are not good.. not to mention the jonesy eyes of the wifey....

You need to Inspect first before you get your right answer from ANY forum m8...

Well I got it filled in with West Marine Finish Gel Coat. It sure is hard and shiny but uneven. Do I start out with 400 grit and go up to 1200? Or would it be better to sand down smooth and spray on the last bit of gel coat with a mini sprayer?

Is that just gel paste you repaired with ? or did you do some glassing ?

If its just paste...only recomendation I can give is let it just sit there and let it shrink up for a few days to a week. Then block sand with 180..then mini spray it like you said. I would get the colormatched gel for this myself :) .

Yep, just paste. Four applications to build up with sanding each step. I will do what you said and post when I'm done. Thanks.

Just another note what was the integrity of the bow eye? I would be concerned as to it's stability because the hit that winch and bracket took from that area of the hull to do that much damage. Hope everything is stable enough to hold long term!!!

It does look bent in the pic, but it's not. So far so good on that.
