I've just tried to install a prop I purchased for a 1986 Johnson 2hp model JCOCDR.
The prop I purchased does not match the original prop and does not match the diagram provided by the retailer.
The original prop has a recess for the prop clutch ring and prop hub. It also has a hole through the cone of the prop, perpendicular to the codder pin hole and parallel to the shaft.
The prop I received has a plastic structure (similar to the spokes on a wheel) where the prop clutch ring and prop hub should reside. It also lacks the hole through the cone.
I have attached a photo and the gearcase diagram from the retailer's webpage. On the left is the original prop and the prop I received is on the right (original was broken when I bought the motor). Clearly, the prop clutch ring and prop hub cannot be inserted into the new prop.
Can I use it anyway? I can't imagine why the designer included those parts if I can just leave them out! Also, what is the hole in the cone of the original prop for - to equalize pressure?
