What I know. Its a 1973 Crestline 24' with a 90 hp Mercury motor. Looking for a model of some sort and motor as well so I can start tracking down manuals for them.

First boat for our family. Pretty stoked to use it next summer
First mods?

Congratulations on the first toon. Not sure about the model boat, but most outboards I have seen will have a sticker under the cover that has the model #. As far as mods it all depends on your intended use and style. Pontoons are very versatile and are great for anything from cruising around to hardcore fishing.

Serial number off the engine will tell you what it is. Is there no model number on the registration/title documents?

I bought a new Bennington Tritoon last year, and got a generic owners manual from a boating association. The things are so bulletproof that there are really few problems after the first year. And they are now making so many lengths 18'-20'-21'-22'-24'-25', 4 different trims and dozens of seating configurations.

The motor is what counts, and there is usually a model number and serial number plate that will identify it.

When you buy a pontoon boat, it's a long term investment in recreation. I have no idea how long they'll last. I still have one that's a 1985 model in great shape--not a dent.

We plan to do a little bit of everything on it. :) Fish, sun, cruise the river, camp, etc.
Ill check under the cover in a few days. Its not stored at my house.
Thank you.

There is not a single dent on this one either. The same family has passed it around since new.

Maurell Products made Crest pontoon boats at that time. Look on the starboard - stern side, right above the toon, there should be a nameplate there. Will be stamped aluminum with the model # on it.

About your Merc 900 motor (from oldmercs.com).
The serial number was on a plate riveted to the port side of the swivel bracket.
Serial numbers 4845301 through 5160323 are 1978 models.
Serial numbers 5160324 through 5594656 are 1979 models.

Good motor for that sized pontoon. I have a Merc 1500 on mine.

Mods --- well, all sorts of mods! But I would check your transom wood first. Make sure it is the right type of wood and not rotted out. Don't want your motor to torque the wood, break it off, and send your motor to the bottom of the lake

Other mods... I would get bimini tops of you don't already. Get out of the sun / heat !
