Bought a Touareg today

I know it's VW's first attempt at a sport utility but what the heck. It will tow 7700 lbs!<br />Enough said for me. I am curious how something so small can tow so much. Also has the 310hp V-8 and the six-piston front calipers and gigantic vented discs make stopping all that weight so easy. But we will see. Fishing season is starting for me as soon as it starts getting cold so wish me luck.

Sounds like a good vehicle. Growing up my dad wouldn't let us buy a VW. He called them "Hitlers Revenge" ,but those were alot differant

Congrats trollhole, but be careful. Ray will want to come down there and put a sway bar on her for you. And then change the tires, add racing stipes, bore the engine, change the cam, paint 'er up, and race her on Saturdays!

I don’t want to dampen the happiness that comes with buying a new vehicle. <br />You have a great one but I have just read a number of posts that state that VW is in a world of hurt by misrepresenting the tow capacity of the Tourareg. <br />Some boaters bought one to tow their boat only to find out that they wont tow half of the weight listed. Thanks Ebb. I couldn't even get her in the boat this time of year much less get her to reel in or out the downriggers. Lol but you would be surprised at all of my friends who ask me daily when I'm going go and want to come. Something about that lake, beer, and great fishing that just gets them calling. But I do plan on making the 1st aniv. meeting. I cannot wait for that. <br /><br />And as far as the towing issues for the Touareg I did a lot of research before I bought and know the whole towing issue. The vehicle is rated at 7700 pounds with a 610lb toung rating. Well the tv add they had showed it towing a 22 ft airstream or something around that. Problem is it could tow the 7700lb weight but not the 700lb some odd pounds on the tongue. Its only rated for 610lbs. And as far a boats go most of them are going to have a lot less on the tongue than a camper so I'm safe. But what kind of an idiot buys a SUV and maxes out the towing capacity. You know if I was going to tow a 7000lb camper around I think I would be opting for something a little bigger and witha capacity of around 10000lb with a 900lb tongue capacity. That guy was an idiot if he thought it was safe. I think somewhere around 6000lbs and 500lb tongue weight is where I draw the line. But my boat is around 3500lbs so I have no worries. It's just when I go pickup the bobcat when I need the extra capacity.<br />But go take a look at it close up and see how the hitch is put on and how the suspension is and especially look at the brakes cause they look like they should be on a mac truck. This thing is a monster.

I have seen one of those Toureg's towing a 23' Chris Craft Cuddy.<br /><br />It seemed to have no problem getting that boat up the steep ramp.<br /><br />And it went down the road.<br /><br />How far he had to travel, I have no idea, but it didn't seem to be struggling in any way.<br /><br />I love the styling of that SUV, and it's sister the Porshe.

TH why didn't you go and get the 10 cyl. turbodiesel? Nice car, I've had a bunch of VWs from air cooled to turbos, I love 'em. Do you have good VW service where you're at? VWs tend to be a little tempermental unless kept in perfect tune. Good luck, I'm jealous .

Yep except for a better looking interior and different headlights and a little bit bigger displacement engine 310 vs 340 for non turbo is is the exact same SUV. And trust me that 30hp difference is barely noticeable. And I like the VW interior much better. The both have the exact same features.

VW is going to put a v-10 turbo diesel on the US market? Interesting where can I read up on this.<br /><br />I have been wishing the that Ford/Chevy would put a diesel in a expedition/tahoe so I can get better than 12mpg towing. I would guess 20 + mpg would be possible on the highway when not towing.
