The rubber ones are the pre-stainless mesh ones, they work perfectly fine

There are dozens of heavy duty hydraulic cylinders on my farm equipment (lifting 3,500 lb combine header not 100 lb outdrive) and the all are "rubber" as are 99% of all hydraulic hoses (including the front brake hoses on your car). The rubber is simply a protective cover over the steel woven wire inner lining of the hose. Now OEM for our Mercruiser hoses is branded steel, but some aftermarket hoses are rubber coated. Take a look at them, if they appear to be factory assembled with crimped on fittings and do not show cracks in the rubber when you flex them, they should be fine.

the stainless lines are actually Teflon with a stainless braid. it is available in the non-coated as well as the coated. we use the coated at work. its a 3000 psi max hose. they also make kevlar hoses which are about 3 times as strong (ratings as high as 10,000 psi)

the rubber hose is simply a rubber liner, and about 4 layers of wire with a rubber cover.

Yes I get the picture however with me never having a boat that DIDNT have braided ss ,made me suspicious it was a down grade.Im sure we all have had our washer machine water hose burst thus making a mess and the replacement is braided ss for strength. Also with our trim hoses spending half their life underwater,I would assume something more heavy duty like ss would be required.Guess I was incorrect...???
