After almost 2 months of being very picky and doing a lot of searching, I finally made my first boat purchase. I ended up buying a 97 Monterey 186 (18.5' BR) with a volvo 3.0L. It's had one owner since 98 and has only been used in fresh water and very well maintained (owner had all maintenance receipts from day one). I'm fairly mechanically inclined and decided to do the inspection myself instead of paying someone else to do it. Everything checked out great plus he had it looked over by a marine mechanic 2 months ago before the start of this season. The engine is actually in pristine condition for it's age. I paid $4,800 for it and that included a mint Load Rite trailer with a spare tire. I'm pretty happy with it!
I purchased boat insurance today and am going to the dreaded NJ DMV to bend over for the state tomorrow. I already have a safety certificate and a boat license since I previously owned pwc for the past 12 years. Hopefully I'll be able to get out on the water within a week provided my work schedule wants to play nice!
It feels so good to be done boat shopping (for now)!!
