After my motor starts the starter bendix appears to release normal, however it then bounces back up and hits the flywheel making a loud "ding" with a spark, is that normal? Its a brand new oem bendix that I just put on because the original one spun and got stuck on the worm gear in the full up position.

Sounds like either you are not releasing the start immediately or the solenoid is not releasing when you release start. If the starter still has power it will drive the bendix up again.

A sticking solenoid could well have caused the first bendix failure.

Thanks JB, You may be on to something. Is there a way to check for a sticking solenoid? I'm almost positive I'm not holding the key to long. (I've had the boat for 9 years)

I don't know if this is related or not but at the same time the bendix failed I now stall almost immediatly after applying throttle, Could it be somehow related? It seems to me to be quite odd that both problems happened at the same time.
