I purchased a 2000 Javelin Venom180 fish'n ski a few years back and have had a heck of a time tying to solve a problem. The boat is in excellant shape and has a 150 Johnson. When I'm up on plane and start to trim it out, the boat starts porpising to the point you have to trim it all the way down and then try again. If lucky, I could use a moderate amount of trim (1/4 way) before it would start again. The second problem is once on plane, it would lean quite a bit to one side or the other, rarely wanting to run level and this is not affected by load distribution in the boat. I installed a jack plate, tried different heights, tried 3 and 4 blade props but nothing seems to work. I finally installed a hydrofoil and this took care of the porposing, but not the severe leaning. Ive owned several boats (including 3 othe bassboats) over the years and I can't seem to get this one to work properly. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: bouncing boat

the bouncing.......is called porposing....this is a motor trim issue......does not matter how far you trim it....
1/4 way......1/2 way.......the hull and tilt of the motor decide what it wants....not a gauge or a button you push with your thumb.

after boat get up on step.....push button a little at a time.....you will hear the rpm increase, and feel the boat accellerate. go too far and the bow starts to come up...and the boat starts to cavitate. trim back down. till you get that sweet spot.

leaning.....get trim tabs....solved and the best investment you could make.

however......this is a weight distribution issue. move batterys around...coolers......ect.

Sounds like a real good test for Nauticus Smart Tabs. Your problems are exactly what they claim to reduce. You can get some for about 130.00 bucks.

Re: bouncing boat

I would move some weight up front to help with the porposing. as for listing, if your heavy on one side and trying to chine walk it will list because you dont have enough boat in the water at that point. being heavy on one side or the other could be stuff on board, water in the hull, or a live well full of water.

trim tabs will help. I personally like Bennett tabs over smart tabs.
