Re: Bourbon fans

I suppose a "purist" would never put it on the rocks, but back in my Bourbon drinking days, I was a big fan of Wild Turkey most times and Woodford Reserve (for special occasions).

Re: Bourbon fans

Since I have morphed from a quantity to quality liquor consumer, my tastes have changed. I was a Wild Turkey, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, etc.. drink for effect guy when I was younger. Now my preference is two or three fingers of Booker's (a small run Jim Beam top shelf) room temp in a thin snifter.

I think Gentleman Jack is great for the money. That is my standard "rail" bottle.

I'm still in the Jack Daniels or Jim Beam club. LOL haven't tried Wild Turkey, keep meaning to.

I do like Canadian and Irish whiskies as well. same as Angus just room temp and in a glass no ice, water, soda or ....

Re: Bourbon fans

I have tried a lot of the small batch Bourbons over the past several years. My current go to is couple of fingers of Basil Hayden over a very small amount of ice.

Never tried "kickin' chicken" (Wild Turkey) !?!?!? You gotta fix that ASAP. It goes down smooooooooooooth, especially the 101. The little "thump" the little cork top makes when you remove it is enough to make your big toe jump up in your boot. It's down right Pavlovian.

I am a fan of the Canadian brands. Lost my taste for Scotch some years ago. Crown Royal Black is a pretty good one.

Re: Bourbon fans

Don't mix up your rye whiskey with bourbon, two different animals.

In the world of the big distilleries it all starts out as corn mash and when the mash is distilled into a clear liquid it becomes vodka, gin, whiskey, ETC.

They just added the flavour.

I'm sure you do, but of course Canadian whiskey is NOT Kentucky Bourbon anymore than a lightning bug is a lightning bolt. Bourbon is aged for years in charred, American Oak barrels, whiskey is not. The casks are actually where all the flavor and colors come from. For proof (sorry I couldn't resist the pun) of just how yummy oak barrels make Bourbon, the casks are sent to Ireland after one use to be used in their inferior Scotch Whiskeys. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I could never get into Scotch. It always tasted like old men and rotten smoke to me.

Well, as long as we're getting picky, Jack Daniels isn't Bourbon either. It's Tennessee whiskey. I'm old and I smoke so that's probably why I like scotch.

She can't wait for some more Spring like weather to get here so she can get outside more. She does have an affinity for mud. LOL never seen a dog who enjoyed plowing through mud as much as this one.
