Anyone ever "built up" the underside of the bow on a Newport whaler in preparation for a trolling motor install? I want to but, not the top. I want to build up the underside. It is notoriously thin under there.

I removed my rails in preparation of installing a trolling motor. Well, it is too thin under there. Was thinking of glassing in some wood in the underside of that area. A through bolt that goes through my hull does not work for me, but I do not mind through bolting through the bow deck.

Here is a picture of the area I want to glass in. I want to put a trolling motor on there. Keep in mind, I removed my rails.

What you guys think?

Re: Bow area of Newport Whaler - Fiberglass

I removed my gunnels from the newport today. I am going to mount some aluminum or marine wood under the bow area while the gunnels are off. It comes off all in one peice. I guess my boat is a montauk right now haha
