Well, I got into my bow eye replacement project today, and found that I have a block of wood that is under the fiberglass resin that has rotten out. Basically the only thing holding the bow eye brace in shape it the enormous amounts of resin that are around it.

Does everyone think it would be ok to just put in a metal brace for the remainder of the season, and still use the existing bow eye until I can get to replacing it this winter? I really don't want to get into replacing the wood block and everything this late in the boating season. If I were to do that it would take me the better part of the week before I were finished. With only a handful of boating weekends left this year do you think it would be ok to just get by with this 'quick fix' repair until I can get to replacing the full bow eye hardware later this Fall?

I thought about measuring out some 2 inch wide aluminum strips 1/2 " thick, and crossing them in a 'T' formation to form a brace over the present resin.

Re: Bow Eye Dilemna

will probably work. just watch the eye, and back in deeper when loading.
