so here's the skinny -- 89 cobia i/o cuddy - odyssey 230cxl - 230hp 5.0l merc v8 with SE106 outdrive and 19 pitch prop -- im new to boating but learning very fast and these forums are great...when taking the boat out, the two times i did it the waves were 3-4, at 2000 rpms the bow of the boat is way up the in air, how do i get it to come down? i only have 2 adjustments on my boat for the outdrive, to make it go up and down obviously, no trim tabs to speak of, this was in the intercoastal in west palm beach, do i need to make is go faster? should the boat fill up with some water to add weight to it? both times i had 4 guys 200lbs in the back area of the boat when i was driving, one to my left and 2 in the back by the engine. there was barely any water in it when i pulled the plug after coming back in, maybe 15 drops or so come out, bilge pump doesnt even pump anything out. just cant figure out why it wont come down, and i had my outdrive down all the way in the water -- any help would be great.

Re: bow is up way high! -- help

you are tail heavy and not going fast enough to get on plane. lower you outdrive all the way down, then give full power till the bow goes down, then move the outdrive out some. then you can reduce power to the point it stays on plane. if you reduce too much the bow will rise again. there is a happy medium. you really need to get someone experienced to give you so pointers with both of you in the boat. also a safeboating class, which you obviously haven't taken.

I'm wondering if your foam is wet. That can add hundreds of pounds. Only way to find out is have the boat weighed or get out the drill.
