???? Bow Lift?????

OK, just what is it in the design of the blades on a prop that give it Bow Lift.

I have a Solas Scorpion that carries the Bow of my Stratos 19' Bass Boat incredably but blows out after break over) with a top speed of 70 + or Minus depending on conditions. on the other hand a Turbo Lightning of the same pitch, (Although being a better prop all around except top speed), Hasn't near the bow carrying ability and tops out at 4 MPH slower + or -.

The amount of rake generally, cupping on the tip will also add bow lift.

What kind of shape is the turbo in?
Has it ever been worked?
I would think the turbo would out perform the Solas.

The turbo is brand new. The Solas Scorpion is the best bow holding prop I have ever seen but I have not tried a tempest. The Scorpion has more rake than anything I have ever seen! I'm going to plug the vent holes in it to see if I can stop the blow out on the Solas.

If I were to have the Turbo tweeked, what would they do to it to give it more lift?

Does it use a Flo-Torq hub..... i have read enough that it seem's that Solas is a merc knock of or vice versa.....

Add more rake and/or more aggressive tip cup.
If the trailing edges of the cup are not sharp edge it decreases the effectiveness of the cupping.

1996 Stratos 295 Pro XL

1996 Johnson 200, J200STLED

6" Jackplate set at 2 3/4" below pad.

Max on the Solas (15 1/8" X 26P) is 70 +or-. @ 5700 RPM. Good hole shot but blows out as it breaks over on plane then catches.

Max on the Turbo (141/2 X 26) is 66 +or- @ 5600 RPM. Slow hole shot. After the Turbo is up and running it's a very smooth prop at any RPM.

Both hubs are press in for an OMC.

Full load with two people.

I would try adjusting the trim pin into the second or first hole, first hole might be a bit much, and stopping down the vent holes in the Turbo. How large are the vent holes in the Turbo now ?

The 2 3/4" below the pad, is that to the shaft centerline ? May want to lower it to 3 1/4" and give that a try.

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot that I set the trim pin to the second hole when I was having Idle problems to level the engine some. (That's fixed now) That may be why the Solas is blowing out like it does! DOH!

Why would I make the holes smaller in the turbo if I have a poor hole shot already? They are about 1/4" now if I remember right.

Yes, the 2 3/4 is to the center of the shaft and that is where the Solas likes it best at WOT. I have no problems with the boat at WOT, No Chine walk, (SX Smart Tabs), nothing!

I'd sure like to try a Tempest with a flow torque hub (I have the OMC kit) in a 26P. I have a 25P Trophy that I havn't tried yet.

My Bad on the Turbo, I was thinking it too was blowing out on hole shot. I run 11/32" - 13/32" dia holes on most my props on my 150.

Sounds like you might have that Solas pretty close to being dialed in.

Following along here: When you are talking about the trim pin are you referring to how far you are currently limiting the trim tuck in for the shot......cause obviously you have trim with that setup. My engine doesn't even have one so I can really tuck her in.....too much actually.

Lube, if you are running 70 with no chine walk, that Stratos is a better boat than I gave it credit for.
