How can I get my 2000 LUND Fisherman Series 1750 with a 115 Yamaha 2 stroke to obtain bow lift. I have tried using the tilt and it doesen't seem to making any difference. I have also took off the foam under the floor of the boat. Foam was water logged.

Re: Bow Lift

On my boat, switching props made all the difference. Some are designed to provide a lot more lift. Of course you need to get that extra weight out of there or distributed properly too!

Re: Bow Lift

Eric;

I am confused! Do you want the bow to come up? Is the bow too far down when you are running at crusing speeds? Or are you trying to get the bow down during acceleration to plane?

Re: Bow Lift

NautiJohn,
At lower speeds, I have better control of the bow's position. When I pick up speed, the bow wants to go down. I try to bring it up using the tilt, I can tell the bow wants to lift but the prop will want to come out the water. CalicoKid mentioned using a different prop. I think mine is a 19 pitch, not sure. Any advise taken.

Re: Bow Lift

A prop with more cup to it, may help it to bite when you trim up. It's a matter of trial and error with props until you find the right combo. Of course, weight distribution plays a significant part in the equation, too.

Re: Bow Lift

Some props provide more lift than others, therefore I would determine exactly what you have on the motor now. Do you have a hydrofoil on the motor? Have you loaded the fron of the boat with extra weight ( trolling motor, battery, gear, etc.)?

I have a Yamaha 115hp, 2 stroker, and I assuming that I have a 19 pitch prop. And I try to have most of the weight at the back of the boat.

Like Jonh said, do you have a hydrofoil on your engine?

Re: Bow Lift

LubeDude,
I don't have a hydrofoilon my motor. I was thinking about buying one. But if all i need is a different prop, then i will buy a new prop. I just don't know what pitch and cupping.

Re: Bow Lift

Eric;

A hydrofoil ( Stingray / Doelfin, etc.) will lift the stern and push the bow down even more. Don't do it.

I am not sure you need a prop either. When you are cruising fast the boat is normaly flat. A good indication that the boat is running in the correct attitude is the spray / splash on the sides of the boat at speed. At 3/4 throttle maybe 35 mph, the spray should start at the back half of the boat. If the spray is starting forward, then you are running bow down.

How fast is this boat, and what is the RPMs at full throttle?

Does the boat have a tendency to bow steer at higher speeds? Sensitive to steering?

Re: Bow Lift

Actually, my boat runs flat at cruising speeds. I can't tell you about RPM's, don't have a tackometer. I can tell that there is a little bit of bow steer. But i corrected that by adjusting the bottom thing near the prop. So, should i get a different prop? Thanks for the advise!

Re: Bow Lift

Although some props will give more lift than others I do not think that this is the answer. You did not answer my question as to where the splash is at cruising speed. It seems that you are running bow down. Given that you have no extra lift / planing devices on the boat, then i suspect that your issue is weight balance.

One thing did occur to me just now, Check the bottom of the hull near the transom to see if you have any concave sections (hooked hull). This would give you more stern lift on a permanent basis.

Re: Bow Lift

The splash is starting more forward. Actually, you hit the money. There were pretty good sized dents. I got some info from Bondo on how to anneal aluminum, and it did the trick. My bow situation was worst last year. But I'm not satisfied yet.
