I want to mount a Bi colored light to the bow of my 1965 whaler which is a 17 foot boat. The problem is - the factory wiring that was encased in the hull at time of production was unfortunateley damaged and is now beneath surface. - so Im guessing that in order to mount this light here - i have to run a conduit along side of inner of hull - which i really didnt want to do - any advice or ideas ? Thank you in advance - Paul

I'm kinda new to boating, and I may be contradicted, but I doubt conduit is required. If you can find a nice place to tuck away the marine-grade wiring (I think 16 gage is the recommendation - see stickies up top), that should be more than adequate.

That is the whole problem - there is literally no where to tuck anything on the boston whaler hull at all - thank you though

Not sure exactly of your set-up but isn't there someway you could fish new wire through? Or if the old wire is just long enough to be exposed a little, maybe you can catch it with a twisted coat hanger and pull it through enough to splice to. Or if it isn't long enough to pull out to splice to, you could cut the opposite end from the light where it is exposed, splice a piece of wire onto it temporarily so you have enough to pull through the bow fixture to splice new wire too. Then pull the whole thing with the new wire back through.

If you find that you must use a conduit, consider type "ENT" flexible non-metalic conduit from the home center or electrical supply house. It will make a neat job and protect the wires.

BTW: I think there's a Boston Whaler owners foum on the web so if you can find it, you might want to post your question there.
