Is the bow roller suppose to turn when the bow is on it and winching? Mind doesn't and is scuffing up the gel coat. Suggestions?

Mine rolls. You might try loosening the bolt a little bit so it's not overly tight. I would think you would want it as tight as it will go and still allow the roller to roll.

A really good question !!!!! And one to think about.

When my V-20 reaches the "bow stop", which is actually a roller, the hull is sitting squarely on the bunks and bow support. Should I continue to crank the winch to cause the roller to, well, roll.....then I would actually be lifting the boat off its supports and placing undue strain on the bow eye and winch strap.

I, too, experence minor chaffing from the bow 'roller' but dismiss it to flex in the aluminum trailer. Besides, and occasional waxing removes all evidence of any chaffing. I do keep the 'roller' adjusted to the point that it is free to turn by hand.

I'm anxious to hear other's responses.

Re: Bow Roller

I had the same problem and got nasty black marks on my gelcoat the moment it contacted that roller. This summer I ditched the OEM black rubber one for one made out of this stuff...

Bye bye black marks! I'm sure you can buy them on this site.

Re: Bow Roller

By the time my bow hits it, the Bow eye has caught the bottom of the roller and the boat is in place...

sounds like you need to adjust your bow roller ,if it lifts your bow before it touches the eye , it is too far forward or up.......it should be hard against the top of your eye hook and the hull should be sitting dead on the other rollers or bunks,... and yes , if it does not roll by hand , you need to lube it..it's not supposed to be frozen... your strap/cable/ or rope should be UNDER the bow roller as well...tight lines bro...!

Re: Bow Roller

If the trailer is properly setup there is no need for it to roll.

Winch Post Adjustment... must be correct because improper adjustment
can be dangerous and may result in serious damage to the trailer, boat, or both.

Loosen all winch post adjustment bolts and slide the assembly toward the boat, positioning the bow stop roller just above the bow eye. When positioning double-roller bow stop on larger tandem trailers, position upper roller just above the bow eye.

Attach the winch strap to the bow eye and wind the winch up tight to hold the post in the new position so that winch strap is in same horizontal plane as bow eye.

Tighten all adjustment bolts and loosen the winch strap to double check that the bow stop is in the proper position just above the bow eye. Winch should pull straight to the bow eye, not up or down.

When adjustment is complete, tighten the winch strap securely. Attach bow eye safety chain to the bow eye making sure it is attached at all times except when loading and unloading.

Re: Bow Roller

Good advice and pic. Mine wasn't so much rolling up but snugging in from maybe an inch or two offline left or right. Even that was enough to leave black marks.
