searched but could not find any post about a bowed transom. I have ripped out everything in the boat and was about to start rebuilding, I noticed that the transom had a bow in it. Thought it was just because everthing was rotten, but it was actually built that way. There is about an inch gap at the center, when you hold a board across. I was wondering if anyone has run into this, and how do I get my new wood to bow, without putting a bunch of holes in the transom.

Re: bowed transom

If your useing wood use thiner wood 1/2" ply & layer it, 1 1/2" thick transom would need three Pcs or you could use seacast fiberglass and pour it in thats what i did.

West System has free booklet shows how to do wood transom, or go to web for www.seacast.com Also go to web for www.mfgboats.com Look under Transom repair ther is steep by steep instructions with pictures for seacast pourd transoms. Good luck.

I'm puttering with a Glastron Jet-Flite, which also has a Bowed Transom... Only it's bowed the Other Way.... Tight in the center,+ Space out at the Ends(sides).......

I'm going to true & level it with Epoxy Putty......Then Bed the New Wood in the Same Epoxy Mix.........

Re: bowed transom

The way to build a bowed anything is to use plywood that is thin enough to bow and simply laminate enough peices to get the right thickness, use epoxy glue and thickener. We have used this process for many years in boat building--Bob
